Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens also known as Queen Latifah, an American artist and rapper. Her work as a music as well as a film and television artist has garnered her two Screen Actors Guild Awards and two Image Awards. She also was awarded an Grammy Award as well as six additional Grammy nominations. Queen Latifah is a Newark New Jersey native. Her parents were Lancelot Sr. as a police officer and Rita who was a teacher in Irvington High School. Latifah's parents divorced at the age of ten. Latifah lived in the Baptist faith and attended Catholic school at Newark New Jersey. Latifah means gentle and very generous. Her cousin gave it to her at the age of aged eight. Latifah is a very tall, 5'10" girl who was part of the high school basketball team. She performed the song "Home" from The Wiz in the course of a show at her highschool. Latifah began to beatbox with the ladies fresh rap group. Latifah was among the founding members of the model of the Flavor Unit which at that the time was comprised composed of MCs and producers led by DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James aka the DJ Mark the 40 King, created a demo of the rap Princess of the Posse by Queen Latifah. He gave the recording to host Yo! MTV Raps The Fab 5 Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music was signed by Latifah following her hearing of the song. She released her first single Wrath of My Madness, in the year 1988.
